Knee Question

Ok as if the shoulder pain wasn't enough...

Never had issues with my knees while running before but the past few runs the top outside section of my knee has begun to hurt.  During todays run it would hurt but as I continued it seemed to go away, but when I would add speed it would reappear.  The pain would start at my knee and travel up the outside of my thigh at it's worst.

Anyone ever get this type of pain and if so what are some good stretches to help deal with it in the future?

All I can say is get seen about it now! I had knee pain and kept putting off going to the doc in hopes of it going away on its own. Well, it didn't, it turned out to be ITBS and I am just now getting up to 12 mile runs since the initial diagnosis in February. I had to do 2 months of physical therapy and foam roll 3x a day for 3 months. I also changed shoes and that helped as well. Get seen, they are used to you now :)

sounds like what i had with my IT band as well.  pretty common overtraining injury.  that's why i added lunges, one legged squats, and hip abductor strength training to help build up my hip muscles (one of the reasons this problem happens).  i was hoping you weren't going to see some leg problems with the extra running you are doing around the shoulder problem.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Yeah these are the answers I knew I would get.  I see my therapist Thursday morning and will talk the issue with them.

Feeling like I really can't catch a break lately.

sounds like you and a foam roller will have an intimate relationship in the near future.  Def sounds like IT band.

happens to the best of us.

nothing that some stretches and strength training won't fix in time.

Time to become best friends with a foam roller. The tighter the IT bands get the tougher it is on the knees and the rest of your legs. I use a therapist but you can definitely help yourself.
