Need a something to keep me warm in a cold pool?

So I need to take a break from walking/running/elliptical to let my knee recover.  I've decided I don't want to wait for the sun to come out so we can warm up the pool.  It's 66 degrees right now and I usually don't go in until it's 84+.  Wet suits are too heavy to swim in so what do you use when you swim in cold water?  I was looking at the blueseventy on line, but it looks really expensive.  Any recommendations?

THanks.

Actually a wetsuit is going to make you more bouyant and make swimming easier.
That is why they restrict their use for triathlons to conditions where it is or could be necessary.  Otherwise people would wear them even when it's not necessary.

  • USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.
  • USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 - 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards.
  • If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may not wear wetsuits.

I just want something so I can finally swim in my backyard, not for tris.  Usually we can start heating our pool by Memorial Day, but with solar heat, you need sun and we don't seem to have that in Northern Cal this year.  And I don't want to join the YMCA just to swim because I know I won't go, and my pool is 66 degrees right now.

I know you didn't ask about Tri's the point I was trying to make is that they actually increase your ability to swim by making you more bouyant.

Other than keeping moving or heating the pool, not much can be done to solve the cold problem.

Guess that means I should join the Y unless you know some way of making the sun shine down here.  I hear with all this rain, the grape harvest won't be that good up by you.

Ehh Wine is just rotten sour grapes anyhow.

My Ex and her family own a bunch of vineyard up in Healdsburg, so wine was part of every meal and social gathering.  I don't like the stuff, I even tried to acquire a liking for it and I just couldn't do it.

What about local pools besides the Y.  I know we have a couple here that are heated.
You can also do drop in at the Y without buying a membership, but they are way over priced for drop in services in my opinion.

Good luck finding a solution.

There is a neat, free way to accomplish this... It's called Urine! LOLOLOL I am kidding (Kind of). Only a wet suit will help with water temps, or hook up a pool heater...
