Race Report-Survive the Five

This was a last minute race for me. My husband Joel wanted to do a 5k so I agreed to do it with him. It was a flat course, and since the roads were really close to the Savannah River it was pretty humid. Other racers were complaining about the heat and humidity, but since I have been doing my runs in the heat of day it didn't bother me. Before the race I was talking smack(lovingly) to my hubby about how I was going to smoke him. I also told him that if he had any sprint in him to not wait for me and to give it his all.

We ran the first 2 miles together, then at the 2 mile marker Joel dropped back dramatically and I kept the pace. I crossed the finish line in 23:15. I placed 1st in my age group (women 25-29). Joel came in at 24:30, great for a first 5k! They were not given out hardware as awards, but instead I got a $20 gift card to the running store I frequent.

I am in week 8 in my 20-week ironman plan, this week is a recover week, so all that was on the plan for today was a 40-mile ride. After the 5k me and Joel went out to a known 10-mile loop in Savannah. He just bought a new hybrid bike last weekend and he wanted to join me for some of my ride. We rode the first loop together, then I took off to do my own speed and pace, I did 4 loops for my 40 miles and he did 2 loops. All in all a great day.
