Any advice for me?
I have to do a one mile run tomorrow. That is laughable to most of you I know! It is the first step in qualifying towards black belt candidacy for me, something I've been working towards for almost four years. I have to do the run in 12 minutes, and by August it has to be 10. By October, I have to run three miles in 30 minutes - all if I make the cut.
I am 90 days post RNY. I've been running again about a month. Prior to surgery I could do a ten minute mile. It wasn't easy but I could do it. Now, my best time so far is 11:50.
Really nervous about doing it. I have to run at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Any advice? I don't normally eat until after I exercise in the mornings, and I am still eating tons of protein and very little carbs. Should I try to eat carbs an hour prior to the run or leave things the same? Should I try and warm up? I am drinking tons of water and just eating my normal protein today.

For me I wouldn't change from your normal routine. You don't want to eat something before your run to find out it doesn't sit well while you run.
Yes this may be 1 mile but it is a very important mile to you. Every mile we run we do so with a purpose we train for each mile weather it is a 1 mile run or a 50 mile run. The key is to do it as you train for it.
Believe in your training and keep yourself calm and pace yourself so you have what it takes to turn it on at the end. You have trained for this and you can do it.

1 mile is a big deal! I managed to run a 5K last March, and still don't run more than a mile now when I do interval training. Getting through that 1 mile is a major mind game. You can do it!
I would stay with your routine since that's what your body is use to. Never try anything new right before a race.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
