8k - Check!

Yesterday I completed my first 8k.  Earlier in the week I was doubting my ability.  I had  blood drawn and the few days after was feeling really puny.  No energy at all when I was working out and was worried I'd fall out of the race.  As the race date grew closer, I was feeling better and far more confident.

I ran the race in 50:31.  I was very pleased with this since it was my first 5 miler.  I became friends with a guy at my gym who had lost over 100 lbs (w/o wls) and he ran the whole thing with me.  He just runs for fun and didn't care about his time.  I thought that was very generous of him and spoke volumes regarding his character.  We just signed up for the Warrior Dash and will travel to that (about 3 hrs) later in the summer.  I can't wait!!  It looks like it will be a lot of fun!!

Here are some pics from yesterday:

That's awesome Shammy!  and you are right, it spoke volumes about his character and it sounds like the start of a great running buddy-relationship.

You look marvelous!

I got hungry and took a bite out of it!!

Just kidding!  The guy was trying to tear the bottom portion off and tore it all up in the process.

Great job. I did hear that bib numbers had a lot of extra protein but never thought about chewing on them during a race. It's great to have a running partner. Helps to maintain a pace.
