The good news and the bad

Good news is no tear!  This is a huge relief and as things progressed last week I was worried less and less about the possibility of a tear.

So the bad news is that there is some inflamation of the:
Supraspinatus
Superior Labrum
some fluid in the Bursa
along with inflamation of these tendons one of which actually goes into the shoulder.

He said the fact that the MRI showed inflamation after being in a sling and immobolized for the week along with heat and ice probably meant that it was pretty bad earlier in the week.

So next steps are, No Tri in 2 weeks, yes it is no official I have resigned myself to the fact that even attempting it would probably cause more problems.  He warned that there is apossibility of increasing from inflamed to rupture giving how bad I was after it first happened.  I am in the process of getting scheduled to see an Ortho who will probably order therapy and shots to treat.  Obviously the Ortho will have final say in what exercises I can do with my shoulder but I have been cleared for Running and Cycling as tolerated, and weight training not involving my shoulder.

Full recovery to where I can consider another attempt at a Tri is about 3 months. SO I will focus on my running and cycling until that time and then hit the pool hard to build the swim portion up.

I'm not the happiest camper right now but there is Always Augusta 2012!

Paul, this just proves how versatile you can be in the face of a setback.  You are not letting it stop you; you are simply modifying your life to accommodate it.

Bravo!  THAT is the definition of a true athlete!  You are my hero.  Hang in there, do what you can do, and never stop enjoying the process!

Thats a bummer.  Sounds like you have a great plan.  Maybe a Duathlon would be something you could do in the short term.

Paul,
I love your positive attitude and am SO glad it's not a tear. Take care of yourself and you'll heal quick. You have lots of time for more tris in the future, and that IM next year. I'm still so impressed you are going for it!
