exercise options...
to make a long story short, im going to be doing the dax moy elimination diet, something i had decent results with a while back
where i fail is exercising
right now im like 285 pounds...ive been overweight my entire life, and its not the most wonderful thing to couple with severe depression and anxiety
a few years ago my mom became a personal trainer, and has been obsessed (and i do mean obsessed) with kettlebells and ive seen firsthand how over time she lost a ton of weight and clothing sizes so i got a kettlebell and yeah...those exercises just kinda hurt. im aware no pain no gain, and im probably doing about half of them wrong, but part of the whole anxiety thing is that i cannot (read, will not) exercise in a group setting around anyone, not even mommy dearest
so, as a very poor college student, that really doesnt have much in the way of money is there anything anyone can recommend to me aside from kettlebells to help lose weight? like other ways of exercising that can be done home, alone?
on a side note ive been considering the gastric bypass surgery, but again, the poor college student part comes in...
i would really appreciate any advice anyone could give (except for the advice about sucking it up and getting a trainer :p)
thanks...

Hello. I wanted to post and say, I can relate to you in alot of ways. I have been fat all my life, weighing in at around 230ish in 8th grade and gaining more over the years. I also have severe depression and social anxiety, it got to the point where I wouldnt even leave the house. A few months ago I finally begin to take my life back. It has been a rough ride, starting with not being able to stand for more than a few minutes. I started walking just around the house and gradually added 10lb weights, just recently increasing it to 15lbs. Recently I started to fall in love with boxing, because of our very limited funds my brother bought me a heavybag and gloves to workout on. Let me tell you it is a incredible workout, cardio boxing. I'm not sure how much help this post will be, but stick with kettlebells you WILL see improvements. Good luck on your journey.

Hi i just found kettlebells about a month or so ago and i LOVE them lol I can't do it for very long but i feel so much stronger already. I was looking on youtube for exercises to do with my hand weights when i found the kettlebells. So i jus****ch all the videos and pick the exercises i think i can manage. So you can watch the videos on youtube and then just do them yourself at home, at least that's what i do. I have talked about them with friends and family and many of them now got kettlebells too. Good luck, its a journey not a race and i'm sure we'll all get there :o) jeani
I agree with Rob S. Walking is free. Also, excercise bands are VERY inexpensive and would be a great way to cross-train. Sit ups, push ups, chin ups, lunges, squats (With your own body weight) Jumpin jacks, jump rope, all the good ol things we did in school.
Because your mom does kettlebells and did well does not mean it is or has to be your cup of tea. Find something you enjoy and the odds of you sticking with are greatly increased. As for the "Diet" you are going to start... I know nothing about it, but I do know that diets of any kind do not work. YES, you will lose wieght, but odds are, after the diet is over, the weight will more than likely come back (Statistically speaking). You need to make a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Make good food choices (Choices you could live with for life) and incorporate excercise as part of your life.
Best of luck on your journey!!!

There are many exercises you can do at home without costing you money. Weight loss is about burning more calories than you take in. What you need to do is move. One exercise that could help are step ups. Very simple to do and you can use anything that is stable to step up on. You can do this on a stair, a aerobic stepper, or even a low bench. You can also add variations to incorporate arms over your head when stepping up. Be creative. You can make your own circuit. For example, 30 seconds step ups, 30 second jumping jacks, 30 second punches, and 30 second elbow to knees. Rest for a minute. Repeat. Find what you like, and stick with it. You do not need money to get fit. Best of luck.
