Cross Timbers 100 Miler - REPORT!!!
Hey Guys,
I will make this short and sweet...
The ride started off on The Texas Motor Speedway and we got to ride 1 mile around the actual track before we headed out onto the course, which was awesome. At 7am it was 80* with 95% humidity, and surely would be a scorcher! There were some rollers, but the 15-20mph winds were ever-present and would challenge us on the way back in. Heading north was GREAT! Averaging 25mph, but I knew we were in for a suffer-fest for the last 25 miles headed dead into the wind to get back home.
I stopped for about 5 minutes at the 50 mile aid station, and took a few minutes at the 75 mile aid station. After that, regardless of how many salt tabs I took in, I was cramping in the quads and was strruggling to keep above 15mph going back in. So, I hopped out of the saddle a few times and took some quick stretches. The countryside was gorgeous, the sun peeked out and was shinning bright, lessening the humidity to about 80% but raising the temps to around 90*. Anyways, we got er dun, and my average was just under 19mph with a total time of 5:25:32.
On a side-note... Both my 90MM Race Wheels and 60MM Race / Training wheels had a flat on the back (Tubulars) that I will need to replace as fix-A-flat did not seal the problems, SOOOOOO, I got the pleasure and joy of being reminded how bad it sucks to ride on heavy trainers. I believe I would have averaged over 20mph if I had my 90mm's, but then again, with the wind, it might have been kind of hairy keeping control of the deeper wheels.
Anyways, that's it. A fun ride and a solid day of training. OH YEAH... I AM REGISTERED FOR IRONMAN LOUISVILLE in August. I will see you out there Jillian & Andrew. Next week will be 80-90 miles in the saddle with an hour brick. BRING ON THE PAIN!!!
