I will been running in a few 5k this summer but the big gola is in Sept.
I been having inner knee pain when running on treadmill. I got my 3 miles to be around 30 minutes. I am going to start outdoor running next month, instead of the gym.
Was wondering if this was normal, or should I cut back. I am averaging 10 miles on the treadmill, with about 30 on the eliptical machine a week.

it could be a number of things. unfortunately, injuries are very common for runners, especially for beginning runners whose body's are just getting used to the pounding it can cause. I would ramp back your runs in the short term and do other cross training to see if that lessens the pain, if not, it could be something else and you should have it checked out. very accute/sharp pain is not good and you should not try to run through that, you can run through soreness and general aches and pains.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

Someone told me to ice the knee afterwards. That has help alittle.
Sharp accute pain should not be ignored. If you have an injury, you risk making it much worse. When I was training for my 1st 5k last year I had pain and had to go to the ortho-after MRI found out it was arthritis. The good news was that I could keep running because I couldn't make it worse....got an injection one time and I've been good to go ever since.
