New Shoes Help!

I am currently running in NB 758, which I love, but need to be retired ASAP.  I went to a sports store and tried on many shoes and settled on the Asics Kinsei 13which were $370 (I live in Israel, everything is expensive here).  They are great for walking around in, feel nice and soft and responsive, but they are terrible for me to run in.  The midsole I think is too soft and my feet and knees hurt after I run in them.  I guess I should mention that I am not a lightweight (189 lbs, 5'9) and that might play into this.  I am a midsole striker and I land fairly gently (I try and go easy on the knees).     I would like to know how not to make such an expensive mistake again.  I could just buy the NB again but I kinda would like to try something else.  I am going to go to a sports store that does proper fittings (with the camera on the treadmill) but I have custom orthotics so I don't really know how much that is going to help.     How do you buy the right pair of shoes when you have orthotics?  Any suggestions on maybe getting my Asics to work for me?  I can't afford to buy another pair of shoes that are going to sit in a box.

Are the orthotics removable?  I am supposed to be wearing some myself, but I haven't since I was a young kid.

I know that our local triathlon store will do custom molded foot beds for shoes.  So they will make them to fit your running shoes or cycling shoes.

You might want to check into something like that.

I think this is the system they use

Yep.  And they are custom made (sort of like what you posted) - I can't run with out them.

Looking at the science section, this is EXACTLY what I have.

Did you take them with you when you were fitted?

Sorry if this seems obvious, But like you said perhaps a real running store with the orthotics in hand may produce the best results for you.

Good luck in your search.

I have not gone yet.  Going on Sunday afternoon.  I will be bringing them of course!  I just don't want to end up buying yet another pair of shoes I can't wear.

hard to beat NB for orthotics as they have a lot of room in them.  I'll be in Herzeliya next week, hopefully getting a good run and swim in on the beach!  :)

I work for an Israeli company, so I go every few months or so.  I almost was going to do the Jeruseleum marathon this year but the logistics didn't work.

I have been wearing the same brand shoe for years. I went to the running store and had the whole video, foot orthotic molding thing done.. I tried several different shoes, returned them all and just ended up with another pair of Asics.
