Gate to Gate, 4.4 mile run/walk

Every year Eglin AFB holds the Gate to Gate on Memorial Day.  This is a 4.4 mile run/walk that includes a service at the AFB's beautiful Veteran's Memorial.  I have always wanted to participate in it but never had the energy or belief I could do it.

Not this year!  I have signed up for it.  I recently started the C25K program and just completed W2D3.  By the time Memorial Day gets here I should be middle to end of week 4.  Obviously not ready to run the 4.4 miles yet.  I signed up as a runner though because walkers can't run but runners can walk.  My plan is to use it as one of my training runs and walk the rest of it.  In anticipation of it, I already do my C25K in the middle of a 5 mile walk,

I can't see any reason why this would be a bad thing or how it could derail my C25K program but when I mentioned it to a co-worker, who is a runner, he frowned and said "bad idea" but when I pushed for an explanation, he just shrugged and said because it is.

Is it a bad idea and if so, can someone explain to me why?

thanks!

Pam

I did the same thing on C25k except I just kept walking at the end. The total was between 3 and 4 miles. I didn't have a problem. Just listen to your body. It will let you know.

Have fun with the Gate to Gate!!

Very awesome news!

You will be suprised at what our bodies are capable of when we need them.  Just have fun with it and enjoy the experience.

There will be plenty of races to go for time.

Hi Jill,
it is going very well for me, but I am only at the end of Week 2 so I have had 6 training intervals.  The first one of each week is a little push to be able to complete but each Day 3 has been relatively easy to complete.  I think that is going to change with week 3 but I BELIEVE I can do it.  That in and of itself is a major victory for me -- believing in myself.
