how accurate is the mileage counter on this Ipod program?  My DD has this on her Iphone and she went running with me last night....she informed me that the path where I run (it is not marked for miles) is 7 miles....not the 4-5 I guessed it to be.....

I don't know the program but you can measure your distance with this www.geodistance.com/
I love using this when I don't have my Garmin or when I am trying to find the proper length of run

Where do you run, you can always use www.ridewithgps.com or www.mapmyride.com or google maps to draw it out.

The I pod program if it isn't using GPS, then it is probably just a pedometer type application and it is based on what you enter for your stride.  So it is only as accurate as every step you take.
If you change your stride length your distance is going to be different.

The couch to 5k program I have for the Android doesn't actually measure distance.  It is time based.  Now assuming you run for their specified time at their rate, you can guestimate distance.
For example the c25k app says run 30 minutes or 3 miles.  Well that means that you need to be running 6 mph for 30 minutes to equal 3 miles.

I have the Nike + GPS on my iphone (i think they might have it for the ipod as well) and the distance is accurate since it's using GPS. There are some other free run apps as well. Maybe she can download a 2nd one to compare distances.
