Time to drink the kool-aid
So todays news about my shoulder wasnot the best but also not the worst. For now I am going to take it easy on the shouldr as the doctor ordered as to not make it any worse if there are any tears. I hope and pray it is just a bunch of sore muscles and if so I willgrunt through what ever pain I need to in 3 weeks. I haven't given up all hope but over the past 10 months have learned to listen to my body, so I have resigned myself t the fact that I probably won't be doing my first Tri in 3 weeks.
So with this news what should I do?
Give up my hopes of doing a Tri? HELL NO!
Give up on the progress I have made thus far? HELL NO!
I will do what any of us would do. I will look for another race to do, and I believe I have just that race.
DRUM ROLL! The Augusta HIM in 2012. It looks like this race is taking place in Sept of this year giving that My wif is delivering our Bably girl on Aug 26th I don't think shooting for this year woud be a good idea.
So I spoke to her about doing it next year and have her blessing. So I will have plenty of time to train for the swim, and bike, and run. Ihad longer runs on my to do list for this year so that will fall in lne with my training. I have discussed getting a swim coach for a bit at y gym to help me with my technique so that falls in line as well.
I can say coming to this decision made the news of today that much easier to swallow. So Thanks to dan, Bill, JIllian and our 2 newest Triathelets Andrew and Ann for the inspiration. Also thanks to everyone for their support and daily motivation to live the life I never believed possible.
I don't think I drank the Kool-Aid as much as I chugged half he pitcher. After all more time to train should mean a bigger race right?

Wow, how ambitious can you get. Very impressive and I admire your bounce back spirit. Great decision and look eagerly to hearing your training reports. Good luck on your new daughter too.

Good luck and get healthy soon.
But just in case the injury lingers, you could check out a duathlon run/bike/run or maybe participate as part of a team.
It's awesome that you have maintained motivated in the face of this setback.
Keep up the great work.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Even though I am sure you'll be more than ready sooner, planning Augusta in sep of 2012 is smart. You'll be able to do some events this summer if the shoulder heals, and use some sprints and olympics early next season to get ready. And if you are healthy, and rock some early summer tri's this summer, you can always sign up for a half sooner, being in the south in fall or spring next year, and at least you know for sure you have that mount everest lurking out there to shoot for.
Awesome decision! I was eying the Augusta HIM next year as well. Next year I am planing 2 HIMs, 2 Olympics, and a bunch of sprint, trying to go fast next year instead of long.
Don't thrown the tri out the window just yet, see how the shoulder feels a few days before race day. Its a sprint, so hours of swim training aren't necessary to fini**** To let you in on a little secret. Before my first tri last year, I only swam 3 times (in a pool I might add) before the race, one 15 minute session and two 10 minute sessions. My first tri was a 500M swim in a river, and I came out of the water in 11 minutes middle of the pack. So keep holding on to hope you will be able to do the tri you are signed up for.
I know its a long way to travel, but I am doing a Sprint next month in Savannah that also has a duathlon, its on June 11th. Its my last fun sprint before the 2 big races.

Whoa huge! I may try to convince you to join me in peachtree city in august for the sprint there. It is by far my favorite sprint tri and was my first. Only if your wife is expecting to go long of course

Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.
