A couple more thoughts on running and socks

First the running.  I still don't run far, but we did do some running during Bay to Breakers, especially during all the down hills.  And not only was it a joy (never thougth I'd say that) to be able to run, but it was very crowded and I was able to weave in and out between people where I never would have fit before.  It was such an amazing feeling to know I could run and pass these people, and fit through the small gaps.  I always use to look for the widest lanes, planned my route so I could get by people, chairs, ...  I love feeling normal and being able to just do it without thinking about if I will fit.

Now the socks.  I've had a problem with my big toe rubbing against my second toe during long walk/runs, so I bought a pair of runner's toe socks.  Rainbow color of course.  My toes were in heaven.  No rubbing, no blisters, just happy little campers.  Just wanted to meantion in case anyone else has that problem and wants to try something new.

Peace.

the right socks can change your life.  sounds silly, but so very true!!

I experimented with toe socks when i was heavy, but they did not help me with blistering between toes.  Apparently losing 100+ lbs did, though, so it's all good.  I still wear the toe socks from time to time, and now that I'm working towards minimalist shoes, the toe socks are the only thing to wear with my Vibram Five Fingers!

You give me hope :)  I've tried many combinations of shoes/socks and still get blisters. The only thing left to do is a lose a bunch of weight. Really HOPE it works so I can run.

When I was heavy I could go a max of 8 miles before I blistered between my toes.  I tried tape, lube, toe socks, a variety of running/walking shoes to no avail.  (though hey, 8 miles was not a bad thing, but i was training for doing 20 miles/day for the Breast Cancer 3-day)

Last fall I walked a full marathon (yup, 26.2 miles) with my good running shoes and moisture wicking socks.  only blisters were on the bottom of my feet - and not bad ones considering the distance!

There is DEFINITELY hope!!

Those are the ones I got, only in rainbow color.  I definitely have to get more.  Thanks for the link.  My running store only has white and rainbow.

Rei carries them as well.

I know the one up in Santa Rosa does anyhow.

What Dan said!

They take a little getting used to, but I like them a lot now.  I use them for both running and cycling.

No blisters since I switched to them.
I just wish they weren't as expensive as they are.
