Anyone suffer knee problems?

I first dislocated my knee at 13. Another time around 26. And a third time about three years ago. And have had 100s of "slips" where I felt my kneecap start to go out, but was able to correct before it fully popped. The last two times it fully dislocated I was exercising. (Softball then racquetball, which is my favorite sport that I have since given up even attempting to play due to all the lateral movement.) Now, I've decided I want to run. Since losing 100 lbs, I've got energy to burn and really want to make the most of my second chance at living a heathy, fit life. So, I started the couch to 5k program last Monday. Did one minute walk followed by one minute run over and over til the time was up. Loved it. Felt great and accomplished. However, come Saturday morning my knee was acting up. Sharp pain. I'm so frustrated!! Has anyone had patella tracking problems? Did you have surgery? Any experience or advice is much appreciated.

Hmmm....don't have that issue but deal with arthritis in both my knees.....I'm a runner too--I had to ease into it and still only run a mile at a time (I interval run mixing high intensity bursts, jogging and speed walking).  This mixture allows me to run but doesn't tear up the knees.

Please check with your ortho before getting too into the running just to get his/her advice on how to minimize your risk of injury.  Is there a brace or stabilizer that will help?  (they don't do a thing for arthritis..........)

I would definitely talk to a specialist to determine if there are leg exercises you should be doing to help support your knees while building up your running.

I have had knee issues in the past, but no dislocating....

Oh, and congrats on your weight loss!!

YES.  I had a dislocating patella for over 15 years.  In 2008, I had a Fulkerson Osteotomy.  It was NOT fun.  Recovery was hard.  It took me over a year before I could say that I was glad that I did it.  However, my quality of life is much better now.  It's a lot to consider...hope you find a great Orthopedist that you trust!  You can PM me anytime if you have any questions!  Good luck, I know how much it hurts :(
