I definitely needed to hear everything that was said to her. I'm going to claim all that encouragement for myself! I have just started getting serious about fitness rather than just weight loss. I'm going to take the advice given her and sign up for my first 5k! Thank you all for being so encouraging and supportive!!

I thought the responses to my thread were fantastic and super encouraging.  I'm glad you took them to heart also.

Good luck on your 5k.  I've been researching the ones in my area and have it narrowed down to 2 (one July 1st and one in September).  I haven't decided yet.  I was so out of touch with these things that i didn't even realize you had to sign up, that they cost money, or they normally benefit some sort of charity.  I thought you just showed up and did it.  Now I know better!

I wish you all the best!

Do the one in July and you will be more than ready for the one in Sept.  On your first race if they offer a no timed option I would go for that, so you won't be sweating about what your time is.

Yeah they cost money but if you do enough of them you will get a nice supply of shirts to wear or make a Quilt out of.  I think Dan has a quilt made from a bunch of race jerseys.

I try for at least 1 a month.

Welcome. It's always nice to have another fitness nut on board! Watch out though, it gets addicting once you do your first race.

Good luck with your 5K. Be sure to post a report.

I would like to do a 1/2 marathon for my 40 th birthday...which is 3 years away..think I can - think I can. Used to run 17 years ago...and now doing treadmill regularly but just walking. I should be able to do that though. I love all the profile pics of the runners here. Super encouraging!
