Pre-dawn jogging suggestion

I’m relatively new to jogging, and I am finding I like to do my exercise when I first get up (around 4:00 a.m.). Since I live in the “sticks", my area has very limited street lights, and I am cautious to jog in the dark. I would hate to run into an animal, or pothole.   I just learned they make headlamps for night exercise, and was wondering if anyone uses them, and what is recommend. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.     I already have a reflective vest, any other suggestions for “night" jogging?     Thanks in advance.
Good Luck on your Journey !!

I start my jog a 3.30 am 3 days per week on trials surrounding a small lake.  Mostly just me, dear and skunks.  I use a Black Diamond Spot headlamp.  I also have Road ID Firefly blinkies if I am going to be road or street running.

I have been running in the dark for about 4 months, then the other day I took my moring jog after the sun came up, and it was like a different world!

Good luck.

I live in the BFE too and get up early, but I can't stand running in the dark. I tried a couple of times, but it made me neurotic. So congrats to you! I have a headlamp, not sure of the brand, but I got it an an REI where there was a huge selection to choose from. You may want to start there or online if you don't live near one. That's one of the reasons I run so much on the treadmill
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Also a stick dweller.
I run with a reflective vest on and no light.
I have been running the same route for several years now and I feel like most of the guys I see are looking out for  me.

My hubby runs in the morning when it's very dark out.  At one of my pre-race expos, I found these for him.  They're lights you wear on your hands, around your knuckles, and they work pretty well.

I got my headlamp at REI. They have tons of them to chose from. I picked a very bright one and it helps a lot.
