Recovery Drinks
So, I read all kinds of stuff on sports, been to a few expos and ran a few races... everyone's got an idea about recovery drinks.
As WLS athletes, some of us have issues with dumping or other special needs, so I'm wondering what people are doing for recovery drinks.
I've been using G2 mostly, and old fashioned water.
I tasted some coconu****er by Zico on Sunday, in Lime flavor, and not being a big fan of coconut, I was not thrilled with the taste. Needed more Lime for sure! John thought it was "ok", and he also later tried the PomBerry flavored Zico, and it got an "ok, if you like coconut" review from him.
I also got a couple of ounces of chocolate milk after the race, good for the sweet tooth.
The Boston Marathon expo had POM juice telling me it was the best thing.
I also saw Cherry juice being acclaimed as a great recovery beverage.
I don't see any reason to change what I'm doing with water and G2, but of course, would love to know if you've got some good miracle story of super fast recovery with something.
So, whatcha drinking??

First off I don't dump. I also don't do long distances (I've had 2 heart attacks so I don't want to push myself to exhaustion). I'm a security guard and I have to walk several miles during the heat of the day...And I do the bike and bus thing (riding about 6 miles). I love small amounts of orange juice...I just sip it in small amounts during the day. It has Vitamin C and potassium (the whole electrolyte thing going). Milk is good too...
So far, I just drink water. I have NUUN in my water during the halves and races, and jus****er afterwards. Then I get food, carbs, banana, granola, ... and I don't drink for an hour after I eat.

I treat myself to Wawa chocolate milk after any run more than 12 miles. It's a super recovery drink. Don't touch it, unless I feel like I've earned it. I tried a cherry pomergranite drink a couple of weeks ago that is suppose to be great recovery drink. Not sure if it did anything other than quench the thirst. G2 is ok, but it tastes like diluted water to me. The Zico had too strong a coconut taste for my liking. If I can hit my gym after a workout, I can get a post-smoothie with protein powder.
Good luck and let me know what you come up with.
After my long runs, I always have a craving for a greasy burger. Usually I can fight the urge, but sometimes I just have to cave in.

I just started using Accelerade. You can get it at GNC. It claims to extend endurance, speeds muscle recovery and enhance rehydration. You can use it before, during or after a workout. I used to get kind of dizzy, especially if I worked out for more than an hour. Since I have started using it, it hasn't happened and I feel more energized during my workouts. It does have 120 calories and 1g of fat. If you are still eating low carb it isn't for you. It is a carbohydrate protein formula. It doesn't cause me to dump. Good luck finding something that works for you.
