Why crunches don't work

Interesting article. I think I'll pull it out every time someone comes on here and says "I want to get rid of my belly, should I do crunches?"

i read that article earlier today, the title was a bit misleading, it should have been "The way most people do crunches don't work".  i agree that crunches are way over-used and often performed incorrectly, but they are maybe 10% to 15% of my ab work.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

I think 10-15% is about right.

But I think there is a school of thought out there that, if you want a flat belly, you should do crunches and I think that's just not true.

First of all, you're not going to see your abs no matter what workout you're doing until you diet down to a low enough body fat percentage.  When you do get there, the best core exercises you can perform are hanging leg raises and planks.
