5K Race Report

Gee, after reading Nate's (who just gets up in the morning and decides to run) and svas80's first 5K reports, I almost didn't post because I started to feel bad about my time.  But then I realized that was stupid, this was a first and PR for me that I've been working really hard for.

It was a perfect day for it, not too hot, slightly cloudy with a breeze that made for a cold start but felt good during the run.  DH and I were up at 4:30 to open our Flea Market that we run for the High School Sports Booster Club.  Finally, no rain and it was a go.  I got a lot of great volunteers to take over so we left around 7:00am to head home, change, and head over to the run.  It was a fun run to raise money for a local park.  The trail was beautiful, green, along a river.  We registered and my stomach was acting up, so I went to the bathroom about 5 times before the race.  There was a nice speech about the park, then we took off.  After .6 miles, my legs felt like lead but I kept going.  Figured I could at least last a mile.  There was a sort steep hill, but kept jogging up it (thought about how nice it would be to jog down it later).  Made a mile then figured I could jog to the turn around.  Made that and kept going.  The back of my right upper thigh was hurting a little, but I kept going.  Enjoyed jogging down that little hill.  I was getting ready to walk but figured I could make it to 2 miles.  Then it was just keep going.  My hubby was right with me and started setting goals like making it to that next tree, one tree at a time.  I did finally stop to walk around 2.6 miles, but that only lasted for less than a minute, then I figured I better start jogging again or I wouldn't do it.  It was really hard, but I made it the whole way.  Time was 41:22 and my watch said distance was 3.15 miles.  Average mile was 13.08 minutes/mile.

Anyway, I jogged a 5K.  Now it's off to make Matzo Ball soup.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Way to go!

Isn't it amazing how we convince ourselves that we can do another miller which then leads to another, and then you are done.

Big congrats!

Excellent job! The best way to enjoy a race or any run, set small goals for yourself, meet them and totally celebrate YOUR victories because that is what it is all about, how much you can do. I still cheer for myself every time I reach the top of a hill and have been known to throw my fists in the air no matter who is around to see!
