Tierra Bella Century Ride Report

In the middle of a 213mile in 3 day weekend, (37 Friday, 101 Sat and 75 Sun)  was my second century....the Tierra Bella put on by the ACTC cycling club.

2000 riders including our own Mac Madame, did either a 100k or 100mile and though it started out cold and foggy- it ending up being a bright sunny day, however, it was also filled with some major headwinds!

This century had the toughest climb I've ever done,at mile 40....10miles up to Henry Coe park, whi*****luded a nice little 22% grade bit at the end where I thought my lungs were going to burst.
I had serious doubts that I was going to make it up that hill, but I did and was so flippin' proud of myself!

With all the days hills, it ended up being over 6,000ft of climbing, and most of them had great vistas of reservoirs, wildflowers, and even my first rattlesnake in the middle of the road!

I was lucky that 4 other of my riding friends rode with me, so we got to pace-line through the headwinds...but I did my fair share and it felt great to work as a team to get through those buggers!!

All in all, it was a great ride and I look forward to my next century in Chico at the end of the month!

Mazel Tov! Sounds like a wonderful ride, and you did fantastic! Congrats getting up that hill. I've hiked in Henry Coe but couldn't imagine riding it. Where did you start and end? Maybe someday I'll join you.

I would love to ride with you Jan! Anytime, seriously!

We started and ended at Gavlin College, you can see the route here...

It was a wonderful ride, but at one point of painful hill climbing I thought, "I paid to do this, all these folks are nuts, why did we pay for punishment" but that went away once I got to the top of the hill!LOL!

Gee, I feel the same way about mile 8 or nine of the half marathons.  LOL

I have to buy a bike one of these days, then we can go riding.  In the meantime, maybe we should meet for a nice hike with Mac Madame, or for lunch.  Have you ever been to Sawyer Camp trail in San Mateo?  Or I haven't been up to the Stanford dish in a while, or Golden Gate park has lots of nice trails...
