Stomach pain during jog
Here's the deal...lap band surgery Aug '10
Have a good fitnes base but just started jogging and training for a 5k
The problem I have been having is stomach pain that starts shortly after I start my jog
The pain is directly below my rib cage - in line with the port (but its definitley not port pain)
I think its gas building in my stomach from my breathing (I am not a good runner so I know I don't control my breath well)
But I thought I'd throw this out and see if anyone has any thoughts/suggestions
By the way - I turned 35 this year and FINALLY ran my first mile!! That was big for me!!!

Congrats on that mile.
I think that what you are talking about is a stitch. They are not sure what causes it but there are a couple things that you can do. One is to alter your stride a bit and change your breathing pattern. Some think that the liver puts stress on the ligaments holding it causing the pain. That will help if that's the issue. What works for me is to do forceful exhaling every two to three breathes. That will ensure that new oxygen gets into the lungs and it works for me. I get the stitches often.
