Thoughts on Weightlifting and Hunger

As promised, I've dived back into weighttraining more than what I was pre-marathon. And, OMG, there seems to be a direct correlation to this raw, animalistic hunger. Is this my body's signal of needed fuel?

The last time I can remember feeling this way is when I was training for my first half -- and it went away eventually - wonder if this is because this level of weights is new to me again as I haven't lifted like this in quite a while (aside from my strength maintenance routines).

Thoughts?

Be happy.

The more I train and weight lift, the hungrier I get and the more I crave carbs. I think we are so use to not listening to our bodies because we were always feeding them that now that we are legitimately hungry, we tend to distrust the feelings. I'm trying to listen to my body more. After I get in my protein and water that is. But when I'm really craving something, I'm trying to believe it's my body telling me something is missing and it needs the fuel.

Or it's that TOM and it needs the chocolate. LOL

some days i know it is head hunger and some days i know it's my body demanding fuel.  the problem days are the ones where you can't figure out which is which....  it's a balancing act, so i try to keep a food log everyday, but will add extra calories when my body is demanding it.  this past sunday was one of those days, i probably ate 400 to 500 extra calories that day because of fuel demand (i had an intense race/training session that morning, even though it only lasted an hour, it left me spent).  i still struggle with it from time to time.  hang in there.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

The harder I lift the more I eat! I've learned to listen to my body and make good choices with what I eat though. I lifted heavier than normal today and have ate 7 or 8 times today.

The harder I work out, the more I'm hungry....and the more I need carbs.....I just go with it and eat a little something.  Fruit or cheese and crackers seem to really work for me.

When my runs get over 9 or 10 miles I get the same feeling. I have not noticed it too much though with the weight lifting. I typically have better control of my weight during the winter when I run less and lift more.
