Big D Half Marathon PR...

OF COURSE IT's A PR!!! It's my first standalone Half I have ever done, and as Scott's (SEHT) tagline reads "The first time you do anything, it's a PR" applies here. It was a BRUTAL day. Temps in the hi 80's humidity in the high 80's to match. and this was the 1st day all year that had any trace of humidity. Winds were whippin around at 20-25mph steady and the course had many long and steep hills. A challenge for sure. I have been dealing with brutal allergies and had some troubles breathing deeply and felt like I had some congestion in my chest. I also had a hard time falling into a steady rythm, but all-in-all I am pretty happy with my result. I have never seen so many people throwing up in a race. I mean there were puddles of puke everywhere on the course. Anyways, my official time was 1:55:23... Not lightning, but given the conditions, I will take it. That put me 32nd out of 150 ish people in my AG. As I waited for my wife at the finish line, I swear I was watching a clip from Monty Python... A girl crosses the line and immediately projectile vomits everywhere... Her friend gets sick because she saw the puke, and she started puking... It was like watching dueling banjos... I think they each heave-hoed 4-5 times... I was waiting for Ashton Cutcher (Spelling) to jump out of the crowd and tell us we were being punked, but that never happened. There were people all along the course at mile 8+ sitting on curbs "Ralphing" burrying their heads in their hands" and overall a general sense that we were all getting pistol whipped. Anyways... It was a really tough but fun race. If anyone hears of a completely flat 13.1 mile race, no wind, and 50* weather with overcast skies, let me know... It would be cool to race in one of those someday...

Congrats on your PR and another race under your belt.

I hear this is a nice flat course, but kind of far for just a half.  Probably going to be my first half.

one word for you.... disney.  flat and cool, and really neat stuff to see along the way.

anyway, puke-o-rama, that's pretty nasty!  congrats on just getting through it!  and at a good clip i might add.

Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

That is great! If I had not injured myself, I would have been running that one as well. Congrats to you. I was looking forward to your race report! My husband ran his first 5K there yesterday. We had been training for the half, but when I got injured he didn't think he could do it without me so he did the 5k. Keep up the good work!

Way to go Dan! Sounds more like a suffer fest than a race, seeing all that vomiting would surly make me vomit. Completely flat 13.1 with 50 degree weather with overcast skies, all the 13.1 races here in the coastal south are like that between November and February. All the ones I have done except for my first one have been like that.

Wow, way to go. I'm so glad I didn't do it though. I see/smell puke, I puke. End of story. My hubby had to clean up after the kids when they got sick because I just couldn't do it. But you made it, and very impressively!

The half I did in Feb. had only a little hill and it was a beautiful overcast day in Huntington Beach, CA. Check out the Run Surf City races here in CA. There are three a year.

Congrats!
