Ride Report First Century

I completed my first Century!!! 100 miles and over 6000ft of climbing and I loved it!

Two years ago, this month I decided to change my life forever....I weighed in at 390lbs and could barely roll over in bed- and now I've got my first century under my belt- life is amazing!

My new (to me)cycle club FFBC usually puts on a ride event called the Primavera, but no one wanted to organize it, so one guy did an unofficial one. There was only 9 of us who signed up to do the century, but 80+ people did either the 100k or 70k option.

We started at 7:30 and finished at 5pm....I didn't hammer at all, took it easy the whole day because they put a really awful climb at the end (1/2 mile of 15% grade!). I rode with two other experienced folks and they were great company.

*Side-note-cyclists are really 2 kinds...either the nicest most helpful friendly folks....or total A-holes! There doesn't seem to be any in between for some strange reason.

Anyways, this route was beautiful; reservoirs, mountains, valleys, rivers, winery's, lush landscapes and a whole lot of climbing and a fair bit of headwinds.

All in all I had a great day and can't wait to do another one with my ALC training group next Saturday!

that is really awesome, congrats!  i couldn't agree more on your comment about cyclists.  someday i will post on my perspective of three very distinct communities, runners, cyclists, and triathletes....  all have their quirks, so far the biggest group of alphas are in the tri group :)
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

I would love to see that post! Tri folks are a very interesting bunch, I think it's because it's so individual where as straight cycling can be more group orientated?

Way to go! I have to say I am a little envious, I want to do a 100 mile ride so bad, but well, you know the problem I have had.

The scenery of your ride just sounds so beautiful and breath taking. My husband is from around that area (Pacheco, Martinez, Concord, that area) so one of these days when we are able to visit his family and I can take my bike, I would love to go for a ride with you. I am even humoring doing the Vineman 70.3 next year just so I can have a 40-person cheering section (his huge family).

Oh you gotta come out here and ride with me! I know tons of amazing sights out here...it's crazy I've lived in the Bay Area most of my life and yet since I started cycling- I've discovered so many beautifully stunning locales it's unbelievable!

Mazel Tov! I'm so proud of you. It sounds like a beautiful ride. Almost makes me want to go buy a bike and start riding too. You are such an inspiration to me.

Congratulations!

With all the 10k's you've done...a bike ride would be a breeze! Maybe we've got another Tri-lady in the mix!!!

Actually, I've only done 3 halfs, no 10Ks.  And those were mostly walking, though I did a little interval for the first 4 miles in my last half.  I'm attempting to jog my first 5K on the 23rd.

I've always been an avid swimmer, it's the biking that will get me.
