Inaugural Corvallis Half Marathon
Just finished my third half marathon at an average 10:40 pace, 12 seconds faster than the last one in January. Hooray!
I have been dealing with a lot of family issues and wasn't sure how well I would do since I've slacked on training the last week. It was a good course - went through the lovely Oregon State campus and then out through a park and into some farmland. They claimed it was a flat course, but it had a couple of long gradual climbs, then quite a few short steep declines. The declines were the roughest on the legs. My running buddy had her knee get tweaked at around mile 10, so I went forward without her. She finished, but it really slowed her down.
Corvallis is my hometown (pretty much) and along the way I saw an old landlord, my eye doctor, sister-in-law and family, dentist office gal, and a few others I knew. It was a good distraction looking for people I knew along the roadside.
I think I could have pushed this pace a bit faster and finished better, but held back the first 5 miles, then finally turned it on for the last three.
The most fun part was crossing the finish line. It was at the 50-yard line in the OSU football stadium.
Overall, awesome run. Don't feel any injuries (yet). Going to take rest day tomorrow!
