Ok, what if............water aerobics bum ankle.

I tried deep water aerobics this morning and really liked it. But it surprised me a bit in that, with my sprained ankle (just barely healing) it still hurt somewhat while engaging in the exercises. It was not excruciating, nor did it bother me the rest of the day. So my question is, can I keep doing the water aerobics safely. It actually hurt as bad as doing my usual running. I would much rather get back to running but am scared to death to do to much and cause healing to be delayed.
Any advice?

You may need to not land on the bad ankle when you bounce around. That's what I had to do. (Only it was my calf.)
