Knee pain question

Ive been trying to start jogging/running...pretty much following the c25k.

Ive been having knee pain and Im not sure if it is soreness or injury. I've had to take a break cause Im training for the SGK 60 mile walk (cant afford injury) and Ive been sick. The pain is gone now, but like I said Im not sure if it is just sore cause Ive never run before or if Im causing injury.

The pain is pretty much the lower portion, inside quarter area...if that makes sense.

I'd like to give it another shot...but now Im nervous.

You shouldn't have knee pain. Either there is something wrong with your form or with your running shoes. Did you get your running shoes professionally fit? That can make a big difference. Plus, you need to replace them every 250-300 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

I know when I first started to jog my knees started to hurt after two days.  So I stopped and my doctor said to strengthen my muscles around my knee.  The stronger your muscles then less occurances of injury.  So I work on my hamstrings and quadricepts three times a week.  I have no problems with knee pain anymore.  It was like night and day.

For years you carried around too many pounds and you probably didn't ask too much from them. Now you have started asking more from them and they are pissed. It doens't sound too serious but you could probably use some knee strenghening exercises and some ice. The new shoes are a good idea also. Single leg squats, leg extensions and leg press should help.

Thanks for the responses! I knew I'd get some good advice. I really do want to pursue running...its definitely not easy. I really do need to work on the strength training, so I will start that first and continue with my walking before running again.

Oh...and new shoes too :)
