Okay, if I do weights and don't get sore am I still building muscle?  How can I push myself to get sore?  More weight seems too heavy most of the time but maybe I'm just not pushing myself hard enough.  Any response would be appreciated....seems like a dumb question, but I want to see progress!

No pain , no gain. You have to push hard enough to break muscle down for the repair/growth part of it. If you don't want to go heavier then you have to work to failure in your rep range. If you can do 10 reps then try 11 and so on until you cannot finish your last rep. You should be sore if you are working hard enough.
No longer about weight , it's all about living.

I believe in lifting heavier weights for less reps. A lot of places have women do a lot of reps with a light weight in some misguided attempt to "not bulk up" or to "tone". But it's very inefficient and there really isn't any such thing as "toning" and women can't really bulk up unless they do it on purpose (and often drugs are involved).

Here are some good articles about the myth of toning:

I concur--however, make sure you maintain proper form.  If your form suffers, then the weight is too heavy.
