Cardio VS. Weights

I have had two people tell me in the last week (my husband and best friend) to ditch the cardio and hit the weights/strength training hard core.  What do you think?
I still have about 45 lbs to lose to get to my goal weight but my husband says I need to tighten what I've lost and my friend says the strength training will get me to goal faster. (neither are obese or ever have been, lol)
Currently I work out about 4-6 days a weeks and spend about an hour on cardio and 45-60 minutes on strength training alternating upper and lower body every other day.  Any advice?

More muscle = more calories burned at rest. The more muscle you have the better you will look and feel. I would suggest finding a happy medium while trying to lose fat. I would also say to make sure you do your weights 1st b4 any cardio.

Thanks, Nate.  I think I'll try that.  I always do cardio first and am kinda tired by the time I get to the weights.  Maybe if I do the reverse I'll naturally cut back a little on my cardio.  I just get panicky cutting back on the cardio and think I lose my endurance and/or stamina that I've literally worked my ass off to gain!

I usually do a 15-20 minute cardio warmup and then do my weight training (full body) for about an hour. After that I do another 45-60 minutes of cardio. I do this every other day and on the alternating days I do cardio only. I was told the same thing Nate said, you get more out of the cardio if you do it after the weights.

You need both. They do different things. Cardio is quite the fat burner but strength training gives you a metabolic boost that is long lasting.

Oh and I do my strength training separate from cardio. Like I'll do strength in the morning and run or bike at night. Or I bike on a weekday morning and go to the gym in the late afternoon or evening for strength training.

I also have some weights and kettlebells at home that I use when I don't have time to go to the gym.

A balance of all types of training is the key.  Once I built up a good bit of muscle I found that I burn way more calories.

Keep the body guessing and keep mixing it up.  It is also good to add some yoga, ballet and/or stretching exercises for balance and a long lean look.  Don't ignore the core!!

I'm glad you asked this.

I have been trying to exercise on my own, but always find a way to get out of it because I didn't know what  I was doing.

SOOOO... I motivated myself this Tuesday. I went and hired a personal trainer. At $60/hr, I think that's motivation! LOL! She will charge if I show u*****t!

And from what I gather, she should start me on mostly strength training, then cardio. Correct?

It's not marked out for me. If you turn on the setting to show 'adult content' then no words get marked out.

I think the software show u *****t and flipped out. Dumb software.
