Hi, my name is Kristi and I had the lap band done 20 months ago.  My goal is to get as healthy and in as good of shape as a 46 year old can.  I started walking right after surgery and gradually increased speed and distance.  My DH walks with me most days and we take our 2 Golden Retrievers( who always want to go faster and farther)!  We walk about 3.5mph, so not speed walking, for about 60-75 minutes a walk.  DH and I  also started doing the 30 Day Shred about 3 months ago and that killed me at first, but it's getting a little easier.  I'm getting in about 350-450 minutes a week of exercise.

I did achieve a goal this Wednesday,  that I set before my surgery, and that was to climb to the top of the climbing wall at the climbing gym where my DD works.  She has been climbing for years and makes it look easy.  I knew it would be challenging for me, but it was tougher than I thought.  My legs and arms started shaking 2/3 of the way up. Probably muscle weakness and that is was SCARY, but with the encouragement of my DD, I did it.  It was not pretty, but I did it.  I doubt I could have done this 4 months ago. I know the Shred has gotten me a little stronger.

I am looking forward to seeing what everyone is doing to get in better shape and I have a lot to learn.  I have tried little bursts of jogging on my walks and it's just amazing to me that I'm able to do this.

My goals are to learn to climb better, be able to jog for more than 3 minutes at a time and to try and get to my goal weight if it's possible.

Hey there Kristi...I know you from the LapBand Board.

I love this board.  Everyone was just like us at one time and now they are running marathons!!!!  It's very motivational and inspiring.

I just started the couch to 5k program.  You can start off running only 30 seconds if you want to.  Since I have started jogging I have had some problems.  I tried to start jogging awhile back and knew within two days I wasn't ready.  I had pain in my knees and hips.  My doctor told me to do some strength training exercises.  After 4-6 weeks I tried again and had very little pain.  I mention this because if any obstacles get thrown in your way don't get too discouraged come on here and every one will help you through it.  The tips I have received the people here have been invaluable.

Good Luck!!!

Welcome. We love newcomers to this board. "My goal is to get as healthy and in as good of shape as a 46 year old can. " Not sure what that means. 46 is pretty young for some of us on this board, so don't put limitations on your health before you get started.

Thanks Rob.  I have good health, but I know I can really improve in my exercise endurance and learn new ways to get in better physical shape.  Walking was my main exercise up until 4 months ago.

I remember you from the other board too!  welcome!  You'll learn a ton here, and much less drama (unless you conisder the debate over the best shoulder workout drama :) )
