Trying to run and lose weight...it's not working so far....
Ok so I over did it in the gym today and had to leave because I made myself sick. I up'ed my intensity to get my scale moving again.....but I have also been trying to build my endurance so I can run. I would love to go running like so many of you do. It's just so frustrating. How long is this going to take??? Ughhhh...I'm not giving in yet damn it.....
What do you mean by up'd your intensity. Don't get frustrated, you have your whole life to work it, this is your new lifestyle :) Try doing HIIT, basic intervals, jog for a set period (30 sec) then walk slowly for a period (1 minute), and as this gets doable, decrease the walking piece, and increase your intensity on the running piece. Give us more details, and I am sure the folks here will chime in. You can do this, we've all been there.
I up'ed the intensity as in I jogged faster (4.7 instead of 4.0) and I jogged for 1 1/2 minutes and only allowed a minute of slow walking before I startred jogging again. I was fine the first 20 minutes but I pushed myself to do 40 minutes and I had to stop because I started getting a terrible headache and I felt dizzy. I should have just been happy with the 20 minutes but I get frustrated with my slow progress and try to go further faster. Bad idea I know.
nothing to be frustrated about. Don't be in too much of a rush to increase those speeds. I know if I had to do it over again, I would probably have slowed down a lot in the beginning.. my first half marathon I as in such pain the whole way through it was hard to enjoy from the injuries. Better to stay injury and pain free for sure. Keep your chin up though, you are doing great!
I remember your post from the other day, and you have made fantastic progress!
I can't help with the running since I'm not quite there - but if you are going to do 40 minutes, make sure you are well hydrated and you've eaten enough before hand. That might be the cause of the headache/dizzy feeling.

It is fine to push a bit but becareful of pushing to much. You have just learned the lesson that many of us have learned in our eagerness to push to the next level, and you body had to give you a little reminder.
I have taking the path of a decent pace, slow compared to some, but it allows me to add distance and maintain my pace. Once I am satisfied with my distance then I work on speed a bit. My body has reminded me a couple times who is in charge and it can be a humbling experience.
Don't judge your workouts or runs based on what others do, it is about competition it is about life and enjoying it.
As for how long will it take well it has taken me 8 months to be able to run 5 miles in 1 hour it. It has taking me 41 years to run a 5k and not have to stop and walk, ok 8 months since my surgery.
if 20 minutes feels good then try 25. The thing is you have to make a plan and stick to it, having an injury that prevents you from working out or makes workingout miserable due to pain will really make it difficult when you can resume workingout.
Also make sure you are well hydrated and stay hydrated as you workout. I keep a bottle with me and will go through 20oz an hour easily.
Keep up the good work.

patience. rome wasn't built in a day... i know this is easier said than done, but keep working and be patient with increasing your intensity/work and be patient with results. if you are following a good nutrtion plan and working on your exercise program, the results will come.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

This is why I like the Couch to 5k program. It tells you how much to run and how much to walk so you aren't guessing about what you can do and either not pushing yourself enough or pushing yourself too far.
