Runners made me feel good

Last weekend was my 3rd 5K with my first being 11 weeks post op.  My times have been

1st  Sept 2010 47min
2nd Dec 2010 41min
3 rd Mar 2011 32min

So last night at a support meeting we had some people from a running store come in and do demonstration on trigger points and explain the benefits.  The lady running the group is also the one who got me into running so I hung around after to ask her some questions and ended up helping the guys from the running store help carry stuff out.

As they were talking about there marathons and half marathons my friend informs them that I am new to running and just completed my third race.  They asked how I was doing and told them my times for my 3 runs and the reaction I got was amazing.  They werereally impressed with the time I was able to cut off since my first one. They said if I needed any advice to drop by the store.  It re-enforced that I have started down the right path and am now in control of my life.

Way to improve on the times! Runners tend to be some of the nicer people you'll meet. Not sure why but it's just what I have noticed at races around here.

Runners are a great community... actually, lots of communities are great.  I've gotten to peak into the world of Mountain Bikers (fun people!) and bald men (who knew they were a community??) and they will share support, secrets and anything you ask of them.

I rarely pass another runner on the road who doesn't wave or nod to me in solidarity.  One lady shared her toilet paper with me in line for a porta potty at a race, without me even asking!

We all know how hard it is to run.   Any improvement on your time or distance is proof that you are sticking to it and working hard.  Any other runner can appreciate that.  We all know that deep down, we are not in competition with eachother, just with ourselves.  (ok, some elite athletes can argue a bit with that, but for most of us....)

Keep up the great work, you have lots to be proud of!!

Great compliment, Paul!

I admit, I was checking out the faster times from our race and thinking to myself, I'd sure like to shave off a couple minutes and jump up in the rankings.

Well they do this course on memorial day as well. Don't forget you need to double your distance now .  Peachtree is a monster of a run with 60K runners total.  And with one hill named Cardiac Hill  I am so not looking forward to it.
