How soon?

After your surgery did you start working out? I had surgery 3-1-11. I still have some pain in my left side, especially when I get up and down and when I have been on my feet too long.

I am anxious to get back to walking/running/weights, as I have a timed one mile run on June 1, and it has to be under ten minutes to try to qualify as a black belt candidate for testing for the year.

I am supposed to resume karate classes next week but I am going easy on the situps, pushups, and sparring, and just working at my own pace.

My surgeon didn't clear me for exercise beyond walking until after 6 weeks post-op.

Mine hasn't given me a specific date; other than saying he'd reevaluate at four weeks. So I guess I'll just be stretching, walking, and waiting.

No weight lifting or core work for 6 weeks.

after 6 weeks the doc cleared for all exercises.

i was cleared just after 6 weeks as well for all exercise.  but, i was encouraged to walk everyday for at least 30 minutes... so i started walking right away.  best of luck!
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Thanks, I have just started up the walking again, seemed like it took two weeks to feel good enough to do it. I am afraid of losing the muscle/training I had prior to surgery, but I definitely don't want to injure myself or get a hernia or anything crazy like that.

My Doc said walking was OK but that I needed to wait until 6 weeks out to run.  So I WALKED, on the treadmill, using lots of hills, and kept increasing the speed.  Once I was cleared for running, I was already half way there.
