Incontinence while running?

Its kinda embarrassing, does anyone have incontinence while running?  I'm starting to, and don't know what to do, especially on longer runs.   I'm 51, a mother, and still 60 pounds from goal.  I live in the South, where it gets hot.  I'm thinking of wearing some kinda pad?

i know it's gross, but running is a natural laxative.  people tend to alter what they eat and control their bathroom breaks, it takes some time to understand your body.  there are many people that get gastric distress while exercising (it happens to me from time to time).
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Thanks, but this is urinary thingy.  I try not to drink too much before hand, but I need something because it's hot and I'll pass out if I don't.  Sunday it was 75 degrees and 20 minutes into my run, after just having gone before the run, I hadda go real bad.  Screws up my run time too.

I have that problem; at times with running but especially with jump roping. I wear a 'poise' pad and it seems to work just fine. I hate it but I don't intend to have surgery for it since its an intermittent problem and I hope as my weight comes off it gets better.

This is a good question for a doctor.  you need to be able to drink when you are running, especially if its hot out since you do not want to get dehydrated.

I suspect Kegel exercises will be recommended to you as a first step - which is contracting the muscles inside that you use when you would stop the flow of urine.  Google it, start doing those, but definitely consult your PCP.

Thanks, I think I'll kegel while I'm at the computer.  But nobody needs to know that...

I find meetings are a great time to kegel.  Keeps me awake and not feeling like I'm wasting my time.

Sanitary Pads. They're not just for TOM! I've been practicing kegels, you might try them. I think they've helped a lot. We're very loose after losing all that weight and I've had the same problem. Kegels have helped a lot, but I always have a pad on just in case.

Thanks, I'll try a pad.  I'm going to kegel and see if that helps too.

Do you think coffee is a duretic even if it's decaf?  I've started drinking a couple of cups every morning with protein as my creamer.
