I still weigh in the 350 range and would like some suggestions on a starter bike. not looking to go crazy on the money side of it until i feel like its going to be something i do all the time...any ideas would be great?? thanks

I would look into a hybrid. They are ok on the road, and have wider tires. Don't scimp too much on the bike, since it needs to be sturdy, and you may surprise yourself and find that you enjoy doing some longer bike rides as part of your exercise regimen.

it really depends on what your goals are.  if you are looking to race, go for an entry level road bike or used road bike, if it is to have enjoyable family rides etc then a hybrid is probably the best bet.  let us know if we can help... i just bought a new road bike this morning :)
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

there's a pic on FB in my bike rack on my mini-van if you want to check it out... i'll see about getting pics to post here.  it's a giant defy advanced 1 with full ultegra component set.  sweet ride from the demo convinced me, it was between that one and the specialized roubaix, the giant was cheaper and rode really well.

I love my Giant, looks like bikes used to look when I was a kid, seat is ultra comfortable, I started riding when I was around 210. Mostly picked my model because of the pretty blue color, but also did research on comfort. Paid just under $300. cheap for a bike these days. Walmart sells a Schwinn that also looks retro and has good reviews. Had not been on a bike for almost 40 years, amazing how it comes back to you! Have fun!
