Can I train for a walk and start running at the same time?
So, Im training for the 60 mile walk, by walking. Im easily at 3 miles an hour on a flat surface. Dont even really break a sweat...but its still in the 40's (degrees) out. I have started walking trails that are hilly and that is more challenging.
Now that Im doing all of this walking, I want to start running. That has always been something Ive dreamt of.
I guess between the walking, running and trying to fit in weight training...is that too much? My walk isnt untl September.
I know that walking and running use different muscles and just because you can run, doesnt mean you can walk 20 miles a day.
I assume I should change up shoes too on walking/running days.

cross-training can be very effective, so i say go for it. just make sure you are careful and don't overdo it too quickly. i would suggest looking up the couch to 5K program, it is a good way to work into running while starting from a walking only base. best of luck and keep us in the loop on the daily workout threads.

Training to run and strength training will both help your walk and strength training will also help your run. That's because part of what you need to do is just get fit and another part is to get endurance. If you get endurance from running, you'll have it when you walk.
