Nutrition while training for half marathon? (RNY)
I recently had an issue with training while not having the proper nutrition. Long story short, I can't run for the next two weeks because of swelling from waist down. If you are interested I will tell the rest. But for now, how can I load up on carbs and stuff if I still can't eat that much. I have to have the proper nutrition to run my half marathon which is April 10. Please help.
Thanks,
Lisa

Lisa,
Without a clear picture of what you eat and when (especially around workouts) there's not much anyone can help you with.
We all eat and train a little differently, but there are a few similarities. So, if you can give us a little better idea of what your issues are, we might be able to help you.

Thanks Linn. Well I have been training for a half since January. I run 4 &5 miles every other morning. Well, 2 weeks ago I decided on a Sunday afternoon to do a long run. I didn't do a carb load or even eat anything other than a slice of bacon before the run. I ran 10 miles nonstop with one 30 second water break. I was so excited! So that week I began to feel sluggish but ran again on Wed. and Friday. By that next week i had noticed some swelling in my lower extremeties (waist down). Thighs, legs, ankles, and feet were swelling by the end of each day. Then I started noticing bubbly urine.
Well, I went to the Dr. on Friday and found out that I did not have the correct nutrition for a run like that and my body started breaking down protein from my muscles. My kidneys are being overworked because that protein that was broken down is slowly having to be filtered through the kidney. If I had carb loaded, the kidney would not have had to work so hard. The bubbly urine is from having some protein in my urine. So now they tell me I can't run for the next 2 weeks and drink lots of fluids to help the kidney flush out all the protein that was broken down from my muscles.
I was just wondering if anyone else had gone through something similar to this. I couldn't believe this was happening. I am still having some swelling. Does this mean I will have to work to build my muscles back up? What have I done to myself? How long will it take to rest my muscles? I really don't like this tight heavy feeling from the swelling.
Thanks,
Lisa
