Hip "pain" - Ileotibial band inflamation

Starting having a weird "catching" pain in my hip during walking.  Annoying and aggravating, but not debilitating.  I've been trying to stretch it and layed off the running for the past few days.  Goodness I really miss it and want to start it back up again!

Anyone have experience with this and what did you do to take care of it?

Everything I read says stretching, NSAIDS and rest...

I have a similar problem in the hip due to mild imflamatory arthritis, but it only impacts me while laying prone (ie. sleeping). NSAIDS are not an option for those of us with RNY, except under strict medical supervision. Stretching and yoga are both great options. Strengthening your core will help. (Core Performance Essentials by Mark Verstegen is a great way to work the core at home and gym).

The other thing is to find a good chiropractor or physical therapist with a background in working with athletes. They should be able to give you Grafton, accupuncture, electrical stimulation, and deep tissue massage.

Rest is also an option for some people (myself excluded, since I am still making up for many missed years).

Good luck and don't let it keep you from walking.

I avoid NSAIDS like the plague, especially since taking them for migraines pre-op led to ulcers. I know the damage they can cause! Good to know yoga helps. I have that tonight. Core I still need a ton of work... Thanks for the suggestions. I really miss running... who would have guessed that a year ago?
