Feeling Exhausted

I'm an exercise enthusiast and have a non WLS friend who is the same way -- we do our long runs together on the weekend but we're both feeling super exhausted these last weeks. I'm taking in a minimum of 2000 calories a day, adequate carbs to fuel the workouts, and was doing fine -- until this weekend. Did a 10 miler on Friday then took Saturday and Sunday off activity...hit weights and Arc trainer yesterday and then elliptical and running today (3.5 miles).

I could barely make it through my run! She and I hadn't chatted about it till just a few minutes ago but we're both EXHAUSTED -- are we just taking in too few calories??? I'm at a loss as I haven't felt this way in a looooong time.

Be happy.

Overtrained? Maybe a couple extra days off and see if you feel better.

This happens to me often as I love to workout and sometimes it is just easy to overtrain.  I was running way to much. Yes it burns a ton of calories, but man it can mess with your quality of life.  After 4 years of distance running my knees started hurting all the time and I was feeling tired instead of energized.  I changed my excercise routine to mostly weights with 30 min of cardio daily and 1 long run a week and it's made all the difference.  Just keep tweaking your routine until you find that ballance.

The other thing I found ( and this may be just me ) I can't eat before I exercise or I am exhausted.  I am 5 years out and every time I eat before I excercise, I am both lethargic and unmotivated.

Congratulations on your success and I hope you start feeling stronger.

When I've hit those occasional walls of exhaustion, I've had to take a recovery week and scale back the intensity and volume of all my workouts.  The other thing to consider is your iron levels.

I had the same issue--had to change my running a bit.  Now I only run long distance (which for me is only 5 miles!) on the weekend, and then I'm doing HIIT on the treadmill one day during the week for only 20 mins....30 seconds at 4.0 then 30 seconds at 8.0--that has been fun and it has re-energized me...the other 3 days I work out I do weight/strengh training....I've also thrown some yoga back in...it is all about keeping it changed and fresh for me....and of course make sure your vitamin levels are good.

On the days I just feel really sore or my legs feel like lead, I have given in and rested more....which has helped tremendously.

Your calories sound about right...that is around what I get daily.

i was thinking overtraining as well.  if you back it off for a couple of days or a week (not stop completely for a week, but take a down cycle week) and still fee exhausted, you may want to look at your bloodwork and/or nutrition.  if it persists, it may be something to discuss with your PCP.  hope it gets better!
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Most likely you need to have your iron, B, and D levels checked. The other thing is to try cross training to help you add variety and reduce exhaustion (like spinning). Good luck to you.

Do you wear a HR monitor during training? If so what did the numbers say on your Friday run and then again tired? Relative, relative, that is.
