I've been thinking about this for awhile.  Since I have a day off I though I would share some thoughts I've have been having about on this forum.  I know there are many of you who sit back and lurk here.  Maybe you're pre op...Maybe post op with limitations or you are still too heavy to work out hard.  I know you are there...24 hits and no posts.

Many of the people on this board have excelled in their exercise programs.  While others are just starting.  Some of you may feel intimidated if you are only walking around the block, moving to the oldies, or taking a few flights of stairs.  I would love to see more responses by the people who don't have it togeather.  Those who are pushing themselves and working on getting healthier in small meaningful ways.  THIS FORUM IS FOR YOU TOO!!
A couple of years ago we had a guy on the Men's Forum who was for the most part in a wheelchair.  He would ride around it in Walmart, but could still walk.  He had WLS and had a goal...Small to most...But for him big.  See there was this lake.  It was a small lake...1/4 mile around.  He had his eye on walking around that thing.  He had his weightloss surgery and as the pounds dropped he started to move better.  Some days it was 50-100 feet...(in most eyes small potatoes).  He kept his eye on the prize and made it around that lake!!  I was in tears!!  Many of the guys knew where he was coming from...And you do too.
Anyways get up and move if you can.  This is not a contest, but try and push yourself...You may be surprised at what you can do.  For those who excell in the exercise programs...Continue to excell...You show us what we can do if we push ourselves and set our minds to the task at hand.  Well I'm done.  Thoughts?

 Great Post Cabin!!!  THANK YOU!

For each one of us, our return to health that now includes regular exercise began with that first, small goal.  Once you hit that goal, set another, then another, and yes, then another.  One day, you realize that you ran 1, 2, 3 miles or more!  Better still, you do something without really thinking about it, like working around your house, running up and down stairs all day, and not getting winded.

This forum is here to get motivation and encouragement from those who have been there and have turned their lives around.  Each one of us has a story, but that all began with small goals and accomplishments.

It is also here to encourage and motivate others.  By sharing your story, your goals, big and small, and how you accomplished those goals, you are supporting and encouraging others.

I agree and when it comes up I tell people that my first "workout" after surgery was 5 minutes on the TM at 2.5 mph. Didn't want to go too crazy! lol

Hello

I have posted on here a few times but I mostly lurk.  My goal is to be able to go jogging.  I want to go out jogging ant the local park.  Go jogging with my daughter.  Maybe one day run in a marathon.  Right now I walk at a brisk rate for 60 minutes 6 times a week.  A couple of weeks ago I tried interval training and my knee started to hurt.  I didn't want to pu**** so I stopped.  I am now doing strenght training exercises...I'm strengthening my hamstrings and quadricepts.  My doctor said that was a great idea as that is what they do in PT.  So I am steadily working toward my goal.  Sometimes I feel like it is taking me forever.  Did any of you take awhile to get to your goals???  I come on here all of the time.  I will have to post more often.

Thanks Cabin, that really puts things in perspective. Way back when, I was a lurker and though my "weak" 1 mile runs were nothing compared to what people around here were doing. But in reality, every step taken in our new lives is a step in the right direction.

great post.  for me, in addition to inspiring to the small things, it taught be about the bigger goals.  There is no way I would have even learned what it takes to do an Ironman, let alone attempt one myself, without this board.

Thanks Cabin for the post.  As a lurker, I too feel intimidated by the posts, but also am envious.  After 180 lb weight loss, sometimes I feel I could take off running for miles and miles, but because I am one of the ones *****ally don't exercise, just walking 1/2 mile is still hard.  My legs are still fairly week from years of being 424 lbs.  Even though I can now take some stairs, which was impossible before, I still have some trouble because of my week legs.  My biggest regret of my post surgery journey is not exercising.  I will try to post to keep myself accountable as I start moving.  I appreciate all of you, Michael
