exercise--know any non-traditional methods?
I exercised faithfully from last February to September, 3 times a week with a personal trainer, and 2 additional days a week just cardio on my own. Then i could not afford the trianer anymore, but i was still going to do the cardio 2-3 days a wee****il I lost my job and the money for the gym dissapeard in december. since then my Arthritis has exploded out of control, I found out in January, that i have 3 kinds of arthritis in both my hips and they apear to be 1-2 years aways from needing replaced, I also need replacements within the next 2 years for both knees.I can hardly walk, the knees will NOT bend when walking and hips dislocate with every 4th step. So I have this crazy side to side Wobble-walk happening. Also The arthritis in my shoulder is acting up and needing surgery (Orthoscopic synavectomy--bassicaaly a joint cleanout) and my left elbow is acting up so much I can't bend it enough to comb my hair.
I WANT to exercise, and all my Dr.s want me to exercise. BUT I really can't do any of what i did before, and don't have acess to a pool for water exercises. and none of them want to give me a prescription for PT
Any suggestions for non traditional cardio that I might not have thought of?

Don't know if this will work...I pulled it off the internet. I used these type of bands the first few weeks post op RNY.

The cheapest form of exercise of all.... Walking.
Second funnest and cheapest.... Put on your favorite music at home and do your own Dance/Zumba routine for about 30 minutes.
You really SHOULD add some weights in, because weights support your skeletal system and help stabilize your joints. (I also have arthritis and 2 autoimmune diseases, but am training for competitive bodybuilding). I noticed that for a little while while I LOST weight my arthritis got WORSE because I no longer had "meat and flesh" stabilizing my spinal column and hips...Once I got serious muscle around those joints the arthritis felt 100 times better!
If you are REALLY in a bad way (Pre Surgery I was in a wheelchair with a service dog!) I used the Richard Simmons VHS tapes moving to the oldies (That you can do sitting down)...They sell these used online, or just Google "Exercises for mobility impaired people" or "Wheelchair Exercises" and you will get tons...
YOGA is one of the best gentle exercises to get fluids and warmth spreading around your joints and body. Seriously. You can buy used Hatha Yoga books from Amazon or Ebay... (Or local Trade a Book or for FREE from your local Library or from online)....There is TONS of "free" and cheap GREAT stuff, you just gotta take the time to research it.
Yoga is great for warming up, cooling down and low impact but getting a work out...Trust me! Same with Tai Chi, which is a very Low/Non-Impact martial arts (done very slowly, almost like yoga) but believe me...Again, it WILL tone and help you.
ANY exercise is better than NO exercise or the wrong exercise where you don;t want to do it.
Warmly,
Jackie

I was told my doctors not to walk because of arthritis in my knees and back. Already had one total knee replacement. Doctors suggested exercise in warm water. Many areas have this available.
