My 5 to 6 days Exercise program
While at a routine doctor’s exam, my doctor informed me that I can now beginning increasing my work out schedule from 4 days a week to 5 or 6 days a week. As of yesterday I have successfully finished 6 consecutive days. I can honestly say that I enjoyed this past week, but I have to admit that both my knees are "killing me!" I'm still carrying a lot of weight, so the types of exercises I can do are limited to the elliptical machine and stationary bike. I'll be looking for outdoor pools come this spring (I'm still debating whether or not I want to get into a bathing suite). Anyway...I guess I just have to "keep on keeping on"..lol.
You are going through the toughest part of our weight loss journey. You are right it is going to hurt and it is not going to be easy. However, it does get better as the weight comes off and your body adapts to the new way of moving. I would suggest joining a health club, if you haven't already. Someone at your gym is obligated to show you the proper way to use the equipment. Take advantages of this, because if you're not using the machines correctly you could be putting a lot of stress on your joints and risking injury. I would also suggest trying out all the group classes they offer. Don't be shy and embarrassed. I promise you...more people are admiring you for trying than those who do nothing. Also, remember the time you are in the gym or working out is YOUR time. Focus on caring for yourself and try and tune everything else out. More than likely everyone else around you is doing this or focusing on the same embarrassing feelings and not judging anyone because their too focus on how they feel.
Keep telling yourself this is only temporary. You will get better and your will feel tons better as time goes on. The important thing is being consistent. Keep switching things up and trying new things. Your body will require changing things up and it will keep it from becoming boring or a punishment. Walking is a really good workout for beginners too. It always feels better to have a nice workout outfit and music that keeps you motivated. Treat yourself and focus on doing this for yourself. You are worthy of a healthy life. You will be amazed how wonderful and stress relieving working out will become in your life. Just keep switching things up and making it fun. There will be a time where the time in the gym is time you look forward to.
I used to be so freaked out by the gym. The things that ran through my head were insane and so destructive to myself. Three years later....I can proudly say...I look forward to going to the gym. It's my stress relieving time and everyone in the gym knows me as a "regular". I ran a marathon in December and I am throwing the idea around of becoming a fitness instructor. I'm still working on convincing myself of this one since I'm so shy!
Best wishes to you!!! This is only a small/temp part of your journey. Keep reminding yourself of this and how great the future will be if you keep at this battle. It's so worth fighting!!!

Hello
I recenlty started to jog and found out really fast that my knees aren't ready for this. I still walk at a very brisk pace which doesn't bother my knees at all...but I would like to eventually be able to jog without knee pain. I did a little research and found that the best thing to do to avoid knee injury is to build up the muscle around your knee. The stronger your supporting muscles are the less likely you are to injure your knee. So I started working out my hamstrings and quadricepts. My plan is in another 6-8 weeks I am going to slowly introduce jogging again and I am hopeful that with the new exercise my knees will fair better this time around.
In fact I want to add that part of your work out routine should include strength training. This will help you avoid injury and help you burn calories.
I also want to let you know the first month I worked out was a constant stream of one pain after another. My leg muscles would be sore for a couple of days and then some other muscles would hurt. I also developed a ganglion cyst on my wrist from weight lifting. But I hung in there and I never have any pain any more (with the exception of my knee).
