Hi Everyone! I'm new to this sight and just found out today that I was approved  My surgery date is March 7th. I have recently started exercising and am looking forward to becoming a runner. I signed up for a marathon in May... so that will be my first fitness goal. I can't wait to start actively living! Any recommendations for pre-op exercise? Also, how long after your surgery before you could hit the gym?

Would that be May 2011 or May 2012 or May 2013?

You are having your surgery in March and planning on running a marathon in May.  Good luck.   Amibitious, but not sure you are giving yourself adequate time to train for a marathon.  Most people don't even know how their new plumbing works after three months.  Might be more practical to start smaller, like a 5k and work your way up to a marathon.  I would be real surprised if your surgeon would give you clearance for a marathon in that short a time span.

Hi Rob...I guess marathon wasn't the correct name. I am doing a 4k for the March of Dimes. I think that is a reasonable goal. It gives me almost 2 months to get ready for it. Also, I am not worried about time- for my first one I am just worried about finishing!

I'm really happy for you.  Good luck in all of your endevors.  A good exercise is the reclyning stationary bike and walking.  I was told that you must wait at least 4 weeks after surgery before you can exercise at the gym.  However, you can walk almost immediately after surgery.

How bad do you want it?
