Compression pants or shrit for running
A few things,
They help to hold everything in place so it doesn't bounce and do the jello jiggle. That's pretty annoying when you run and can also throw off your stride and balance, cause back pain etc.
Also helps eliminate what I call chub rub, you know the friction induced fire of having your legs rub together.
Compression gear can also help with recovery by improving the circulation.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
I bought a pair of under armour compression shorts on the advice of my trainer to help with recovery from my leg workouts. My leg workouts consist of squats, deadlifts, leg press, lunges, step ups, and squat presses. Prior to compression, I'd get major DOMS at the two day point as I expected to. With compression, the DOMS is pretty minor, whatever it does is working for me. They've actually become my favorite underwear for all the reasons mentioned above as well.
