Absolutely Inspiring!

I am pre-op with an approximate surgery (RNY) date of mid-April.  I am so inspired by this forum! I can hardly wait to be able to run! I live in a university area and see healthy people running on the street and I long to be running next to them. If I tried that now, it would involve an ambulance at some point (like in 1 block).
I read your posts and see that my future is next  to all of you.  I can hardly wait to join you!
Until then, I'll run vicariously.

Thanks, also, for the info on weights then cardio.  My surgeon requires weight training as a commitment during weight loss. Helps counter the muscle loss many experience...oh and it helps with the saggy skin issue, too.

It's awesome that you are focused on this preop. You will do great! Listen to your Dr about lifting while losing weight...it's a lot easier to keep muscle than build it back later.
No longer about weight , it's all about living.

Welcome and we look forwarsd to your contributions.

Yuo don't have to start as a runner, I began walking preop and by the time I was up for surgery I was walking 4 miles in about 1:15.  Post op for me running has been a huge investment in time and frustration but I do enjoy it now and push myself to go farther or go faster or something so that each run means something.

I agree with Nate on the weights part.  I was stubborn and didn't head peoples advice and now I am paying the price trying to build what I probably had.  My upper arms have more sag than my 85 year old grandma but I am getting them back.

Keep us posted on your progress and join the daily workout thread.  Like I said in one of my previous posts there is no need to be intimidated here.

Thanks Paul & Nate. I will definately start with walking. My surgeon requires that commitment starting now, 30 min 3x/wk. I will need to break it up during the work week to 3x10 min/day/3x week, because of my job.  I can still make it work. Walkng is for compressing the leg muscles and getting the blood flowing pre-op to reduce the chance of blood clots post-op.

My surgeon is really a strong partner in assuring patient success and health. I feel very fortunate.

So...I will indeed keep posting and reading on this forum. The food part is easy for me, it is the long term sustaining that has  tripped me up in the past.

See you in cyberspace!

also to add to Paul and Nate's comments.  Building lean muscle mass is EXTREMELY important when it comes to your metabolism.  The more lean muscle mass you have, the better your metabolism.  AND, you don't have to be a body builder to have lean mass.  i can't stress enough the importance of resistance training.  best of luck!
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.
