Going on 7 months since surgery and so much in my life has changed.  I had lurned on this forum for what seemed like forever and wouldn't post because I was in the mindset "No way could I do the things these people do."

Reading some of the race reports had me believing no one here would care about me walking 4 miles.  Then I started to participate in this forum and quickly came to learn that people do care about my accomplishments because at some point in their journey the people on here I draw insperation from have been where I am.

With out the help of some people here this process would be even more difficult in that our post-op diets laid out by most of our surgeons really don't accomodate the lifestyle that many of us have adopted.  Without the help of some people here I would still be living on 600 calories a day and dying at the end, now I somewhat know how to fuel before and after a workout.

The accomplishments that so many of you have made has taught me that with a lot of hard work anything is possible.  One year ago I never believed I could complete a 5K and 11 weeks after surgery I had done just that, while I wasn't the fastest I completed it.  Now I am training for my first 10K the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th.  I have taken a mush different attitude in approaching this run as it will be a major accomplishment, and while just completeing it will be a moment in life I will never forget, I also want to perform to the best of my ability and hit the best time I can.

I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Bill at the gym a couple weeks ago and thanked him for the motivation and insperation he has provided to me.  The reality is that while a few on this bored really inspired me as a silently started my pre-op process, Dan without reading your story I don't think I could have done what I have so far., it is everyone on this bored that keeps me going and pushing myself just that extra bit to hit a new mark.

For those such as Dan, Scott, Bill, Nate, Cassie, Jillian as well as people just starting their life with exercise and fitness such as Chad and Jeff, along with everyone else I owe a thank you. Without this forum I probably would not be able to pull myself out of bed at 4:30am to hit a solid workout before I go to my office.

For those reading this who have just started posting or for those who were like me and afraid to post here you have probably one of the greatest groups of people on this site.  Stuff like surgery type, doctor and all the other BS that seems to clog the other forums doesn't exist here.  Here it really is about supporting, encouraging and celebrating eachothers goals and accomplishments.

Thanks to everyone.

It is a good forum which is why some of us have been around for years. Hope you are too! Keep up the good work.

Paul,

It's really nice to hear that other people enjoy this board.  It's the only one I visit on this site.  I used to post much more often before I got so involved in school, but I still do what I can.

Take care, and continue to be the best YOU that you know how to be.

Keep up the great work, Paul.  You are inspiring those who are new, so stay active on the board!

I confess to being more of a lurker lately, but I always gain insight and inspiration from the newer and the more experienced folks here.

Warm welcome to my fellow lurkers!  Post - this truly is one of the most welcoming boards on OH.  Inspiration lives here, for sure!

You are doing awesome Paul, I hope to one day be up around your area to do a race with you. I think this is the best forum on OH, I love the people in here. Months ago, I thought the same thing you did, like "why would anyone here care how I did at my 5K". The people on this forum are some of the most genuine people I have ever encountered. I use this forum as a source of motivation, when I just don't feel like doing anything I look at the daily workout post and know I need to get moving.

How far along is your wife? When the new baby comes, he/she will always see daddy as fit and healthy, that's great.

My wife is 12 weeks now.

I have joked that  this is the first kid I will be able to lay on my chest and not have to worry about them getting a head rush from all the blood rushing to their head.

Thank you for asking.

couldn't have said it better myself. This is a great board with some great core folks.  I check it almost every day and when I don't is when I lose my motivation for sure.

Great post, Paul.

I'm moving this forum up in my bookmarks as I visit more regularly these days. I have been thinking that I'm just posting my c25k results here to track myself, but then I find the support and compliments from those who are so much more accomplished inspiring.

Thanks you to for your inspiration.
