Good Morning all... Question.... has anyone started the process of weightloss surgery and after meeting with the dietician and starting a pre-op diet & exercise program been sucessful and then changed their mind about surgery?

I start my 3 month pre-op diet today and I'm hoping I'll be successful in losing maybe 20-30 lbs by the end of April or beginning of May.  This surgery is such a commitment.  And I just get worried over the finalization of it, and the fact that the way God designed me is going to be reconfigured to work differently.

What are some of your thought?

Thanks guys!!

Peace & Blessings... Kelly

I would say that if you can do it without the surgery it would be the ideal situation. It also sounds as if you may not be sure about the surgery yet. I think that you really have to be 100% set on it and it doesn't sound like you are. There is nothing wrong with working your diet and exercise and see what happens. The surgery will always be there as an option. Once you do it, you can't change your mind.

Since the time I decided to look into WLS and got a referral from my PCP, I started losing weight and exercising, and I've lost almost 60lbs. I believe that I could lose a substantial amount of weight, but I don't think I will be able to get to my ideal weight and keep it off without help.

I actually was thinking the same thing when I started... that if I was successful losing weight pre-op, maybe I should reconsider surgery, but now I am trying to get off 3 more pounds that my doctor/insurance company requires prior to surgery... and I've been stalled for the past 3 weeks... I'm thinking surgery is for me.  The doctor would like me to 266 by 3/1/2011; and right now I am at 269 and have been since my last appointment with them on 1/18... and I am following the diet and exercise plan they gave me with almost no cheating.  I would recommend to see how it goes and then go from there.  Right now, I'm thinking I will need surgery to succeed in the long term.

I am responding to your post and let me say I just started my process of lossing the 20 pounds needed for me to have the surgery as of 2-12-2011.  I met with the surgeon on the 10th and truly I have no doubts.    I know for a fact  I need and want this surgery and since meeting with him I have a new lease on life.  GO with your gut, u have too really know what your goals are...
