Is anyone else struggling to eat enough to sustain their exercise levels?
I'm very active and am training for my first Marathon, plus I do spinning, kickboxing, yoga and lots of strength training to tone my sagging skin (from 135lb + weight loss)
I am REALLY struggling to be able to consume enough calories to sustain all of the activity that I do. I am working with the nutritionist at the clinic to figure out ways to injest enough calories and its hard.
I know that this makes me very unsusual. I have met one other person in Ottawa who is struggling with this and we chat regularly. Wondering if anyone else out there is facing the same dilemna.
The "numbers" say that on some days I should be eating 2500 calories but I can't physically get in more than 1200-1500 (we are talking quality calories here, not junk)
I don't want to bonk so I have to pay attention to this.....and it would be nice to know there are others out there...

Hey RunnerGal!
You are definitely not alone! I have seen many bariatric athletes struggling with this same issue. Your needs are very different than the typical athlete who should be consuming 2500kcal and your needs are very different than the typical bariatric patient. There are training strategies I use in working with my clients to help them use more of their own bodies' energy stores (fat) rather than having to consume large abouts of sugary sports products to prevent you from bonking but may cause GI distress. I am offering a couple of programs right now that may work for you and has you feeling energized when you cross that finish line!
One thing I see right now, is you may want to focus on training for your marathon. Cross training is great! But not if it is leaving you worn down. I would make sure you are doing activities to support your training and building the muscles used for your event. There is a time and place for all of it when you periodize your workouts.
And lastly, I really want to say how awesome it is that you are doing all that you do! Really RunnerGal, a true congrats to you for how active you are and actually out their LIVING your life! Keep it up!
