I know...I should be ashamed, I'm 7 mths out and have just now started to consistantly work out. I am wondering how did you start out? This is my 2nd week at the gym and I'm wondering if I'm doing enough? I start my workout with 25 mins on the treadmill at about 3.7 mph. Then I've been working out on the machines, mainly my arms (because that's where I have the most skin) and also legs and stomach. I've been going 3 or 4 times a week. What do you suggest for someone just starting out?? I've been reading some of your posts and WOW...you guys ROCK!!!!

I hired a trainer.  That way we could form an exercise plan and that I would not hurt myself.  I had 8 sessions with him, and now work out even more after working with him than before.  I am going to do this for about 3 months, then work with him to get another plan and continue doing this for a while.

I highly recommend getting a trainer.  They can help motivate and help explain the equipment, and how to work out alone.

Good Luck!

Get a few sessions with a trainer they will look at your fitness goals and help develop a plan to optimize your workouts and plan your sessions, and help you get the equipment settings right along with what machines you should use.

Be sure you have some goals like I want to tone my muscle and not really build or I want to rebuild loss muscle or RUN!

Don't ever be ashamed of exercising, you are among the minority of people both nationally and WLS patients.

welcome!  you've recieved good advice, just start out slow and ENJOY YOURSELF!  it you're not doing something you enjoy, it will become much more difficult to make exercise a permanent part of your life.  good luck and post often in the daily workout thread.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

OK!! You're not alone...my surgery date was May 10, 2010 and I'm just joining a gym today!  I had been walking outside when the weather was warmer, but, here in Wisconsin, we have very few nice days in the winter months...at least nice enough for me to walk in!

Regardless, I have to admit it has been about 3  months since I've walked - regularly- and the scale is showing it!  I haven't budged - well...if you call vascillating between 165-170 on a daily basis budging, then so be it.  But, I'm stuck there and I believe it's lack of exercise that's keeping me from losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose in order to me my goal of 145 lbs.

I'm glad I've chosen to switch to this board...the main board is pretty gossipy and contains a lot of redundant posts...so I'm looking forward to checking in with this crowd for motivations, incentive and inspiration!

Good Luck to you...I'll be right behind you!

Peace out!
Emmie
